  • Polavaram Bill: Call for Telangana bandh on Saturday

         The Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) and the communist parties have called for Telangana shutdown on Saturday to protest passage of Polavaram bill in Lok Sabha for merger of over 200 villages of Telangana with Andhra Pradesh.

  • Heavy rain over next 48 hours in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
          Heavy rains lashed parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh and some isolated places in Telangana and Rayalaseema. A heavy rainfall warning has been issued for the next 48 hours across Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari and Krishna of Andhra Pradesh and Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Khammam, Warangal and Ranga Reddy of Telangana.

          Southern and northern power distribution companies of Telangana have been called upon to sign power purchase agreements with Hinduja National Power Corporation Ltd, which is at the advanced stage of commissioning the 1,040-MW thermal power project near Visakhapatnam.

          Last year, erstwhile AP received Rs. 220 crore as Central assistance and this year, a Rs. 48-crore project has already been sanctioned by the Government of India for the Anantapur-Lepakshi-Penukonda-Puttaparthi-Thimmamma Marri Manu (Kadiri) circuit, he said. AP government will celebrate the 504 year of the coronation of Emperor Srikrishnadevaraya at Anantapur and Rs. 32 lakh was sanctioned.

  • Army to recruit 1,500 soldiers from Telangana
          The Indian Army will recruit about 1,500 personnel from 10 districts of Telangana for four different categories through a ‘Army Recruitment Rally’, scheduled to be held from August 1 to August 10 at Hakimpet Sports School. The four categories include soldier technical, soldier clerk, soldier general duty and soldier tradesman.

  • Metro wants Delhi to resolve dispute with Telangana
           Larsen & Toubro, the firm behind the Hyderabad Metro Rail, has now pinned its hopes on the Centre to resolve its dispute with the Telangana government over realignment of the Metro route to avoid passing close to the heritage structures in the city.The company is not in favour of any modification to the project at this stage, and is learnt to have taken up the issue with the Union urban development ministry and the Union finance ministry. The company has urged the Centre to resolve the issue at the earliest, as works have been stalled at various locations near the Legislative Assembly, Moazam Jahi Market etc.

  • Goodbye to pink ration cards in Telangana state
           Pink ration cards are all set to be abolished in Telangana. Though pink card holders are not eligible for subsidised food from ration shops, there has been a huge demand for these cards, especially in cities, as they serve as “proof of address” to obtain passports, domicile certificates etc.

  • Not blocked TV channels: Telangana
           Replying to Bimal Julka, secretary, Union ministry of information and broadcasting, the government stated: “There is no role of the state government in transmission of the TV channels thro-ugh MSOs. Moreover, in the present case, the government has not issued any kind of instructions to any MSO or any other association to allegedly stop or close the telecast of any TV channel in Telangana and no orders were issued by the state government to stop the transmission of ABN Andhra Jyothi channel or any other channel.”
