The Division Bench of Hyderabad High Court comprising Chief Justice Kalyanjyothi Sen Gupta and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar on Monday asked the governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to act more decisively to remove the illegal fexis, banners and statues in public places.
The Bench was dealing with a case filed seeking removal of statutes in Mukthinuthalapadu and Gudimillapadu in Prakasam district.
The Bench asked both the governments to take steps to prepare action plan for removal of such illegal statues and flexis.
After passing these orders in December 2014, the governments had filed reports. The bench on Monday said that even recently it noticed spurt of flexis which are obviously not permitted.
The bench adjourned the case by two weeks for the governments to report back to the court.
GHMC polls
Meanwhile, the Division Bench of Hyderabad High Court comprising Chief Justice Kalyanjyothi Sen Gupta and Justice P. V. Sanjay Kumar asked the Telangana government to file an affidavit clearly indicating the time it needs to conduct elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
The Bench was dealing with a case filed by the Centre for Good Governance. The petitioner complained that special officers are appointed instead of conducting elections.
The GHMC said that it needs time to finalise fresh delimitation and identification of wards to be reserved for SC, BC, ST communities and women. The bench asked the State Government to come out clearly indicating the time frame.
The case is listed next week.
Fishermen deaths
in cyclone
Justice S.V. Bhatt of the Hyderabad High Court on Monday expressed shock and anguish at the attitude of the officers of Fisheries Department who failed to disburse compensation amount to the families of fishermen who died or went missing in cyclone in November 1996 in East Godavari district. Senior officers were asked to get records by next Tuesday.
The judge was dealing with a writ petition filed in 2012 by Mahila Matsyakara Samshema Samiti.
