Nearly 20 children are feared dead and 10 others seriously injured after a school bus carrying 30 children collided with the Nizamabad-Hyderabad train at a level crossing at Masaipet of Veldurthi Mandal of Medak district this morning.
The bus was fetching students from villages nearby to a school in Toofran.
The injured have been admitted to a private hospital at Kompally near here.
Expressing shock over the accident, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao has ordered a probe into the incident. He held a review meeting with Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma and DGP Anurag Sharma on the bus accident this morning that killed 20 school children.
He has deputed three of his Cabinet colleagues T Harish Rao (Irrigation), G Jagadeeshwar Reddy (Education) and Padma Rao (Excise) to the accident site in Medak district to supervise relief operations.
According to Government officials in Medak, 13 students died on the spot, while 7 succumbed to injuries later.
Fifteen are seriously injured and three students declared safe.
The Chief Minister will visit a private hospital in Secunderabad where the injured are admitted.
The names of students undergoing treatment at Yashoda Hospital are Harsh, Chintu, Sirish, Maheswarredy, Vaishnvi, Nishita, Ruchita, Varun, Akshith, Manikanta, Fatima and Sandeep.
