The proposal to develop rural Adilabad under the ‘Mana Ooru-Mana Pranalika’ (MOMP) programme which would cost the State exchequer over Rs.10,000 crore, came for discussion at the first general body meeting of Adilabad Zilla Parishad on Monday. The members, mostly MPs and MLAs, however, wanted more of development to be included in the plan while giving suggestions on it.
Legislative Council Chairman K. Swamy Goud, who was a special guest at the meeting, pointed out lack of closer supervision on anganwadi centres which paved way for irregularities. He suggested a weekly inspection of such centres to streamline functioning.
Mr. Goud also wondered why there was no proposal to develop tourism in the district in any of the plans under MOMP. He wanted proper development of Kuntala waterfall and Kadem reservoir as places of tourist interest.
Adilabad MP G. Nagesh sought inclusion of establishment of a tribal university in Adilabad and more number of degree and education colleges for the benefit of tribal youth. He also wanted opening of student managed hostels in the district.
Peddapalli MP Balka Suman was critical of irregularities in sand mining especially in Godavari. He also wanted the government to establish an industrial corridor between Kagaznagar and Khammam in the State.
Forest Minister Jogu Ramanna said Telangana in general and Adilabad in particular will be developed with the cooperation of all concerned. All MLAs, MLCs attended the meeting besides Collector M. Jagan Mohan and ZP Chief Executive Officer Anita Grace.
